Howell senior coordinates Flint drive
Since Feb. 25, senior Kalyssa Klausing has been collecting men’s clothing and personal care items at Howell High School to donate to Flint residents through Catholic Charities.
Klausing says that her experience helping with Flint Catholic Charities over the summer inspired her to start the drive.
“They are always in need of personal care items and men’s clothing, especially men’s jeans,” Klausing says.
In addition to men’s clothing, personal care items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, deodorant, bars of soap, and diapers are needed for several Flint families.
“They [Flint Catholic Charities] have a ton of people who come through the system. They run Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM. They usually have 30 people a day that come through for personal care items. If you figure that they can come twice a month and there are 30 a day, that’s a lot of people,” Klausing says.
The drive will end on March 20th. Students can find donation bins in the Commons labeled “Help Flint”.
“Finding men’s clothing is really easy. You can honestly go through your closet or find stuff that your dad or brother doesn’t wear,” Klausing says.
