2020 election showdown: views of both candidates

As November 3, election day, approaches everyone who is eligible to vote should be able to understand and make informed decisions on who they want to support. Below are some of the hot topics and opinions that might have an affect on how individuals vote and which candidate they are supporting. 

COVID-19 Response

Donald Trump

President Trump will continue with his 3-phase plan to reopen places and hosting events. He believes that he has handled the crisis well, like closing borders quickly, and will continue to do what he has been.

Joe Biden

Biden plans to keep restrictions in place until the pandemic is declared over. He also wants to test more and make it so the people who don’t have healthcare can still go to the hospital and be provided medical attention. 

 

Education 

Donald Trump 

Parents should be in charge of their children’s education, and introduce competition into the school system to eliminate the gap from low-income families.

Joe Biden

Biden believes it is the government’s responsibility to ensure that all children have an equal chance at an excellent education no matter what.

 

LGBTQ+ Rights

Donald Trump 

The Trump administration has continued to attempt to revoke LGBTQ+ rights and protections, particularly transgender individuals not being allowed in the military.

Joe Biden

Biden plans to improve protections and equality for the community. Including enacting the Equality act to make it illegal to discriminate against people in the LGBTQ+ community. 

 

Climate Change

Donald Trump 

The Republican party believes that America should start to strive to become independent with its energy sources. He also believes that climate change is not a real issue.

Joe Biden

Wishes to create jobs in clean energy and will take the steps necessary to prevent it. Believes that the Trump administration has failed to try to prevent the crisis. 

 

Pro-Choice vs. Pro-Life

Donald Trump 

President Trump believes that abortion is morally wrong and violates the Declaration of Independence. He wants to ban abortion and add restrictions and regulations.

Joe Biden

Believes it is a women’s right to have access to safe and legal abortion. Claims administration will limit the restrictions on women who get them.

 

Gun Control

Donald Trump 

Believes that it is a citizen’s second amendment right to bear arms, and to do so should not be restricted.

Joe Biden

Guns should be regulated, and restricted for those who are not in the right state to own and operate firearms.

 

Immigration

Donald Trump 

Wants the border secured and put an end to illegal immigration, and put Americans first in jobs. His administration also wants to reform the system so they can enter without as many economic hardships. 

Joe Biden

He feels as though immigrants are essential to this country. Biden wants to reform the system the US currently has and create a more modern and humane approach. 

 

Healthcare 

Donald Trump 

Wants to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with a system with fewer regulations. Believes Americans should have to pay more for a higher quality care plan.

Joe Biden

His campaign believes in easily accessible quality health care is a right to American citizens and should not be denied to anyone.

 

Law Enforcement Reform

Donald Trump 

Trump is fully supportive of the current law enforcement system and has been vocal about his disapproval of the protests that have been happening throughout this year.

Joe Biden

Biden is for reforming the current criminal justice system so that it creates trust in all communities.

 

Women’s Rights

Donald Trump 

Over his term, Trump has rolled back protections that women have and has limited reproductive education to not include certain topics. But he has pushed bills allowing up to six weeks of paid leave for maternal cases.

Joe Biden

Will ratify the Equal Rights Amendment to guarantee equal rights. Take steps toward ending pay inequality and ending the violence against women.
