Before the year of 2013 comes to an end, check out the new movie releases prior to 2014. There are various movies filled with excitement, suspense, romance, comedy and more.
Haunter
Lisa Johnson is an innocent teenage girl who is one day away from her 16th birthday. She and her family were killed in 1986 and are dreadfully reliving their last day of life. Lisa is the only one of the family who has “woken up” and is aware of what is going on. Living in the house is a family, with their daughter Olivia. She helps Lisa discover that a previous serial killer lived in that house prior to herself. He kidnapped and killed multiple teenage girls, burning the remains and storing them in a secret furnace room within the house. This man is a cruel, evil spirited murderer who possesses the ability to seize the living. Olivia must help Lisa and the others escape their torture. If you missed this thriller in the theater, catch it on DVD. Released Oct. 18/Thriller & Mystery
12 Years a Slave
Based on the true story of Solomon Northup, 12 Years a Slave takes place in the pre-Civil War United States. It tells the story of a young African American man, Chiwetel Ejiofor, who was kidnapped and sold into slavery. His master was a cruel, heartless white man who referred to them as his property. Ejofor must struggle to survive his new life, while also regain his dignity. During his twelfth year living this cruel life as a slave, he gets the chance to meet with a Canadian abolitionist that could change his life forever. He wants to once again be the free man that he was born as. There is Oscar buzz with this film. Rent it to find out why. Oct. 18/Drama
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Coming to theaters on Nov. 22, the continuum to the series The Hunger Games, Catching Fire tells the suspenseful story of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark who have both returned home safely after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games. They must attend a Victor’s Tour of the districts, where they abandon their families and friends. However, the Capitol feels Katniss makes her District feel as if they are invincible, which they are not okay with. Through torture, pain, misery, and sorrow, they attempt to abolish Katniss’s name as victorious, and instead be a threat. Nov. 22/Action & Thriller
Frozen
Living in a kingdom of warmth and summer, Anna is forced to team up with the courageous mountain man, Kristoff, on a journey to save their kingdom from everlasting winter. They must travel to the Snow Queen, who is ironically Anna’s sister, and eliminate the icy spell. Anna and Kristoff must battle mystical creatures and magic in order to save their kingdom. Nov. 27/Musical & Family Film
Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas
Madea gets dragged into surprising her friend’s daughter a surprise visit in the country for Christmas. Madea dresses up as a Mrs. Clause where children can visit and tell her what they would like for Christmas. However, Madea is not the nice Mrs. Clause that people would expect. Pushing children away and destroying their hopes for that one desired Christmas gift is what she does best. During this, this rural town prepares for the Christmas Carnival, secrets are let out and old relationships are put to the test. Dec. 13/Comedy
