The Howell Opera House will be holding its 15th annual GOT ART Showcase this week and next week.
Creations from some of Livingston County’s finest art students will be displayed throughout the building. These students’ pieces were handpicked by their teachers so there is no doubt that the audience will be in for a treat. The Livingston Arts Council wanted to include everyone which includes public school students, private school students, and also home-schooled students.
Specific schools involved include Howell, Brighton, Hartland, and Fowlerville school districts. Flex Tech and Kensington Woods High Schools will be represented along with St. Joseph Catholic Central School.
Since 1989, The Livingston Arts Council has been working to encourage more art throughout its county. With the help of many supporters, it has been taking baby steps to make it to where they need to be.
According to www.theoperahouse.us, “The Livingston Arts Council and the Howell Opera House exist to engage, educate, and entertain individuals of all ages with art and cultural activities for creative expression and social interaction.”
According to Gabriel Seck, Howell High School’s Main Four photographer, and featured GOT ART artist, GOT ART achieves just that.
“It is a huge honor to be given the opportunity to be a part of such a spectacular event. I have looked forward to it every year ever since I was in elementary school. Seeing the older kid’s art pieces gave me a sense of what I needed to accomplish in the years to come. There are so many brilliant artists in our community, especially within Livingston County Schools. As students, our artwork can sometimes be overlooked because of our age. GOT ART gives us the opportunity to share our talents and make sure that we are not underrated. The community comes in with excitement and leaves with a whole lot of appreciation and a great big smile. There is nothing I love more than sharing my art with my colleagues and community. The most magical part of GOT ART is that it sparks passion, drive, and inspiration,” Seck says.
There is no admission charge for this event. It is simply held to display the youth’s creativity to the community. Also, none of the art is for sale, only there to be observed and admired.
Secondary art will be showcased March 18-23, and elementary students art display March 25-30. The Howell Opera House is open on weekdays from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.. For more information, call The Opera House at 517-540-0065.
