Howell baseball participated in the third annual Champions Tournament over the weekend in Flint, Michigan. They played Davidson and Flushing on Friday May 23 and beat Davidson 15-1, getting solid contributions from everyone up and down the lineup and a strong start from junior Austin Palo on the mound.
Howell lost their next game 10-2 to Flushing. Several errors were made in the field and pitcher senior Alex Duffy struggled with his command. They then proceeded to lose to Bay City Western 7-0. Senior James Edwards threw a solid game on the mound but was not helped by several errors made again behind him. Howell struggled to defend the “small ball” by Bay City Western, the state champions of 2013. The team executed their bunts perfectly and used their speed to steal quite a few bases.
Howell ended their trip on a positive note with a 10-0 win over Fenton behind a strong outing on the mound from senior Darren Ford.
Howell is 22-14-1, second in the KLAA West division. Senior night is their final regular season game against Wayne Memorial.
